The Pop Hypothesis are a two member band from Vienna, Austria. We have existed in various incarnations since 1981. Our roots certainly lie in new wave, synthpop and post punk from that time. We have never learned to play instruments or read music but that hasn’t stopped us from trying. Our songs are passion projects, primarily produced for our own entertainment but the wonders of modern science have enabled us to share them with others.
In 2017 we finally had our first official release when we contributed a cover of Paul Roland’s song “Stranger than Strange” to the download only compilation ALICE’S CURIOSITIES – A TRIBUTE TO PAUL ROLAND.
2018 has already seen the release of the single MADELAINE (another Paul Roland cover with an original composition on the B-side) and LIFE ACCORDING TO A POP STAR. Some more singles will follow. We are currently working on an album that will come out in 2019. It will contain songs written over the course of more than 30 years.
